Uranium project a step closer to fruition

The Environmental Protection Authority has approved the environmental scoping document for the project.

Toro will now have to submit an environmental review and management program. The company's managing director Greg Hall acknowledges there is strong community interest in uranium projects.

"These are pretty well the same size as small gold mines," he said.

"They're creating interest because they're uranium and this is the first time there's been a uranium industry developed in Western Australia."

Mr Hall says the company plans to have the project in production in 2013.

"I've currently been talking to future potential customers, power generation companies about the offtake of uranium and there is interest in having the uranium available from Australia from that period onwards," he said.
